Sanibel and Captiva Island
The City of Sanibel is located on Sanibel Island. Sanibel is an independent city. The island is connected to the mainland by a causeway (bridge access). The crossing costs $6.00. Sanibel's unique geographical location, stretching from east to west, means that many shells are found stranded on the beach. For early risers, this is always a good excuse to take a walk on the beach, as that's when you'll find the most impressive and beautiful specimens. Sanibel is a single nature reserve. There are over 41 km of bike paths and over 25 km of beaches. Apparently, no house is allowed to be higher than the largest palm tree. The only exception is the lighthouse at Lighthouse Point Beach. It is considered a landmark.
It's worth driving further (to the end) to Captiva. The villas are getting larger and more expensive.
Here at the end of Captiva is the Mucky Duck restaurant.
